Making a difference through research
Great Lakes wraps up CPS-3 enrollment for 2009 at Relay For Life events..
What does it take to make a lasting difference in the fight against cancer? For thousands in the Great Lakes Division, it’s as simple as donating a small blood sample, getting a waist measurement, filling out a survey about lifestyle, behavior and medical history, and agreeing to complete follow-up surveys every few years for the next 20 to 30 years.
Fifteen Relay For Life events in Indiana and Michigan hosted enrollment for the Society’s third Cancer Prevention Study in 2009, enrolling a total of 3,925 people in this long-term study to identify the lifestyle and behavior factors that cause or prevent cancer. People between the ages of 30 and 65 who have never been diagnosed with cancer are eligible to enroll in the study.
CPS-3 provides an opportunity for people to participate in a study that will lead to breakthroughs in cancer treatment, help identify further ways to prevent cancer and detect it early. For many, it’s also an opportunity to honor a loved one who has fought or is fighting their own battle against cancer.
Next year, CPS-3 will be coming to 19 Relay For Life events throughout Michigan and Indiana. In addition, the Great Lakes Division will be piloting CPS-3 enrollment at select American Cancer Society office locations. Visit www.cancer.org/cps3 for more information on enrollment locations near you.
Thanks to the strong commitment and unparalleled passion of its volunteers coupled with innovative and creative promotional efforts, the American Cancer Society is well on its way to enrolling hundreds of thousands of people in the third Cancer Prevention Study. Together, we will see more lives saved and celebrate more birthdays.
