High School Football teams raise $1,000 to benefit
Relay For Life of Munster
Touchdowns For LifeThe Relay For Life of Munster, Inidiana, discovered a new way to bring youth, schools, and the community together to celebrate Relay – football. In a region where high school football dominates fall sports, this was an opportunity for local school’s varsity and junior varsity teams to give a preview of what to expect in the fall, and raise money for the American Cancer Society.

In the first annual “Touchdowns For Life,” 200 high school football players from four major teams in northwest Indiana gathered to play in a seven on seven tournament. Coaches from Munster, Crown Point, Lowell, and Lake Central teamed up to fight cancer. Each player donated $5 to participate, which resulted in $1,000 for the Relay For Life of Munster.

“I think the Touchdown For Life tournament is a great way to involve young student-athletes in a very worthwhile community project, while having lots of fun doing what they like to do best, compete."

"As coaches and educators, we feel it is important to set positive examples for our players and to be good role models for them to emulate. It is the feelings of all four coaches involved that we would like to do this again next year and get even more people involved,” said Coach Leroy Marsh, Munster High School Football.

The event was organized by Coach Leroy Marsh whose wife is a cancer survivor.Touchdowns For Life

“All of us have been affected by this terrible disease in some form during our lifetimes. It is our wish that our players and their families someday won’t have to fear the word cancer, it will simply become a bump in the road of life that we will deal with," said Coach Leroy.

"The Touchdowns For Life tournament is a great way for all of us to fight back against cancer.”
