Michigan Celebration at the State Capitol
On June 9, more than 500 volunteers from came from throughout the state to support the passage of a statewide smokefree air law and increased funding for the Healthy Michigan Fund. The 2009 event was a great success: volunteers met face to face with 37 of 38 State Senators and 102 of the 106 State Representatives.  

Celebration at the State Capitol was emceed by Ashlee Baracy, Miss Michigan 2008. Our speakers included cancer survivor Linda Liebe from Milford and Dr. Tom Peterson, Medical Director of Quality and Healthier Communities at Spectrum Health and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospitals in Grand Rapids.  As part of the program, our State Lead Ambassador, Linda Burkett, received the IN MI Heart Award for outstanding achievement in advocacy and an additional 46 volunteers were recognized for their active involvement as Legislative Ambassadors on ACT! Committees.

The day closed on a high note with a stirring performance by Detroit-area recording artists MIKE-E and AfroFlow. Thanks to all of you who participated and continued the fight to make cancer issues a priority in Michigan!
